April 2007 Crude Steel Production

World crude steel production for the 67 countries reporting to the International Iron and Steel Institute was 109.3 million metric tons (mmt) in April. This is a 7.6% increase on April 2006.

China produced 40.3 mmt of crude steel in April. This is an increase of 16.5% compared to the same month of 2006. Japan produced 9.7 mmt, an increase of 4.1%. South Korean production was 4.3 mmt, an increase of 10.9%. April crude steel production in India was 3.7 mmt, an increase of 5.7%.

In Europe, Germany produced 4.1 mmt of crude steel in April, an increase of 0.5% compared to April 2006. Spanish production was 1.6 mmt, -2.9% down on the same month last year. France produced 1.8 mmt, up 1.4%. Production in the United Kingdom was 1.3 mmt in April, 3.9% higher than the same month of 2006.

Russia produced 6.1 mmt of crude steel in April, an increase of 2.8% compared to the same month last year. In the Ukraine production was 3.6 mmt, up 6.8%.

Brazil produced 2.7 mmt of crude steel in April, up 12.1% on the same month last year.
