The 2005 Sustainability Report presents a profile of the industry followed by a summary of the results of the 11 sustainability indicators.  The 11 indicators enable the world steel industry to measure its economic, environmental, and social performance. Addressing the commitments outlined in IISI’s Policy Statement on Sustainable Development, economic performance is measured by four of the 11 indicators: Investment in Processes and Products, Operating Margin, Return on Capital Employed, and Value Added.

Since sustainability cannot be measured by numerical indicators alone, additional case studies highlight innovative solutions to help meet freshwater demands in areas of limited availability, in sustainable construction methods and in studies focused upon the role of steel in generating and distributing energy, including renewable energy resources.
