World Steel in Figures is a handy reference for world steel trade data, export data, and production information. The publication contains a list of the world's top 80 steel-producing companies, as well as the top steel-producing countries.

As in previous years, World Steel in Figures lists the top steel producing countries and companies around the world.

In 2005 the five major steel producing countries were:

  1. China (349.4 million metric tons mmt)
  2. Japan (112.5 mmt)
  3. United States (94.9 mmt)
  4. Russia (66.1 mmt)
  5. South Korea (47.8 mmt)

Total world production reached 1,131.8 mmt in 2005, up from 1,067.0 mmt in 2004.

The largest five steel producing companies in 2005 were:

  1. Mittal Steel (63.0 mmt)
  2. Arcelor (46.7 mmt)
  3. Nippon Steel (32.0 mmt)
  4. POSCO (30.5 mmt)
  5. JFE (29.9 mmt)
