2nd Steelies Awards winners announced at worldsteel-45 in Paris

At the farewell dinner to close the 45th annual steel industry conference, the World Steel Association (worldsteel) hosted its second Steel Awards ceremony. The trophies, known as Steelies, were awarded in seven categories.

The categories, nominations and winners were:

1. Steel Industry website of the year: voestalpine
(Final nominations – AISI, Dongkuk Steel, Rautaruukki, Severstal, Tata Steel, voestalpine)

2. worldsteel activity of the year: LCA Methodology report
(Final nominations – LCA Methodology report, SteelComm5 in London, Water Management report, SRO and Economic Forecasting 2010/2011, Safety Excellence Recognition Programme, Launch of new Chinese extranet and public website)

3. Innovation of the year: Ansteel
(Final nominations –Ansteel-Waste heat and gas recovery regeneration, ArcelorMittal-Energy/CO2 balance model, Baosteel-Waste heat and gas recovery regeneration, JFE-Super-SINTERTM process)

4. Excellence in sustainability reporting: Rautaruukki
(Final nominations - ArcelorMittal, POSCO, Rautaruukki)

5. Journalist of the year: Alex MacDonald, Dow Jones
(Final nominations - Silvia Antonioli, Thomson Reuters, Henry Cooke, SBB/Platts, Yuko Inoue, Thomson Reuters, Martin Ritchie, Metal Bulletin)

6. Life cycle assessment leadership: ArcelorMittal
(Final nominations - ArcelorMittal, Baosteel, Rautaruukki)

7. Industry communicator of the year: Wolgang Eder, voestalpine AG
(Final nominations - Hajime Bada, Wolfgang Eder, Lakshmi Mittal, Paolo Rocca, John Surma)

The Steelies winners were selected through nominations by member companies to the relevant worldsteel committees followed by final selection by expert panels. Journalist of the year and communicator of the year were selected by direct vote.
