A Royal recognition has been conferred on the World Steel Association by His Majesty Philippe of Belgium, seventh King of the Belgians. The title can be given to non-profit making associations that have existed continuously for at least 50 years, demonstrate good management, regularly organise activities, pursue a commendable cause and operate a non-discriminatory membership policy.

2017 is the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the World Steel Association. Edwin Basson (Director General), Nicholas Walters (Director, Communications and Public Policy) and Nina Gabatan (Manager, Membership and Business Development) recently visited the Palace office to collect the honour from Viviane Scholliers, High-level Civil Servant from the Brussels Metropolitan area.
