Severstal, one of the world’s leading vertically integrated steel and mining companies, has been named the Russian steel industry leader for environmental transparency. This research was conducted by Interfax-ERA, the ecological and energy agency, ahead of the Year of Ecology in Russia.
The agency examined data from annual corporate and social reports as well as information from the websites of around 5,000 companies, since 2005. This included data on fresh water consumption and wastewater volumes, air emissions from stationary sources and transportation, occupied area and waste generation, as well as fuel, heat and electricity consumption, product manufacturing of and the number of employees working at the company's plants. Against these indicators. the agency experts concluded that Severstal is the Russian steel industry leader for environmental transparency.
