worldsteel announces 8th steeluniversity Challenge launch date

Brussels, 17 October 2013 – The 8th steeluniversity Challenge will begin with the Round 1 Regional Championship on 12 November 2013 and will finish with the Round 2 World Championship in February 2014. There are two categories: ‘Student’ and ‘Industry’. Entrants in both categories will compete online from their own countries in the first round and the winners of the first round will come together in Belgium for the Grand Final. Read more

Study highlights need for 'Life Cycle Assessment' approach to vehicle-emissions regulation

BRUSSELS, 12 July 2013 – A new study commissioned by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) says that with increasing efficiencies of powertrains and fuels that contribute to lower emissions during the driving phase of the car, the use of tailpipe CO2e emissions will become “almost irrelevant in terms of focusing on true carbon profiles” of future vehicles. This booklet details WorldAutoSteel's latest FutureSteelVehicle (FSV) project, which features steel body structure designs that reduce the mass of the body-in-white to 188 kg and reduce total life cycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by almost 70%.
