Between 2011 and 2013, worldsteel undertook a global benchmarking study examining maintenance performance in the world steel industry. This report summarises the results of the study.
It is the third time worldsteel has examined the maintenance activities of the world steel industry.
Previous editions were published in 1989 and 2008 and this last one, in 2014 (published online in February 2018 due to confidentiality restrictions).
The Maintenance and Reliability (M&R) Report aims to assist steelmaking companies to significantly improve plant reliability and thereby reduce maintenance and associated costs.
Survey data indicates that more than half of the members have the potential to reduce their unscheduled losses significantly and be able to benefit from removing unnecessary costs.
The effectiveness of the maintenance and reliability function is critical to each and every business and hence critical to the global steel industry. M&R groups ensure equipment functions to the requirements of production allowing quality products to be delivered to the customer on time.
