Director, Economic and Market Studies

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) is hiring a Director, Economics and Market Studies. This is a unique opportunity to join one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world, with members in every major steel-producing country. worldsteel represents steel producers, national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutes. Our members constitute around 85% of global steel production.

This full-time function aims to guide worldsteel’s understanding of global economic trends and steel demand drivers, and to help shape appropriate responses from the industry.

This is a senior role requiring regular communication within a multi-cultural and multi-language environment with senior representatives from across the industry.

You will be part of a flat organisational structure that places a high requirement on personal commitment and performance.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead economic analysis and forecasting activities with a view to providing reliable demand forecasts for the steel industry
  • Develop and oversee economic and strategic research projects important to the steel industry
  • Lead and coach individuals involved in economic research activities
  • Lead the activity of the Economics Committee
  • Prepare reports for the top executives of the steel industry
  • Support the gathering and maintenance of economic statistics in worldsteel

REQUIREMENT

  • Senior tertiary qualification in economics/industrial economics with experience in econometric modelling
  • At least 15 years of relevant industry research experience in the steel or related industries
  • Ability to manage people and projects
  • Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly at a senior level
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Willingness to relocate to Brussels
  • Regular travel is necessary
